About Us

St.CroixRecycles.org, also known as the Recycling Association of the Virgin Islands (RAVI), is a diverse group of residents, visitors, business owners and community leaders who are helping to establish and promote recycling and environmental initiatives in the Virgin Islands. The organization began in 2007 as a project under the Virgin Islands Resource Conservation and Development Council (V.I.RC&D). In November 2011, St Croix Recycles became an official program of St. Croix Environmental Association (SEA). SEA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

We invite you to partner with us to help reduce waste going to our landfills.

This may seem daunting . . . but small efforts can have significant results. Our goal is to use less throw-away items this year than last year. Keep in mind that no one is perfect . . . we are striving for progress not perfection . . . so do a few of the items below and have fun!

1)   REDUCE

  • Reduce use of throw-away cups by participating in the new Good-to-Go cup campaign. See details on this website
  •  Reduce use of throw-away water bottles by drinking water from a glass or other refillable container. Note: you will save money and produce less waste by purchasing water in refillable 1-5 gallon containers.
  •  Reduce use of throw-away plastic bags by bringing your own reusable bags or containers when grocery shopping. Groceries are easier to carry in reusable bags and if you keep 4 or more in your vehicle they will be ready when you need them.
  •  Come up with your own ideas such as buying produce from local farmers (no packaging waste), switching from throw-away plates to dishes, composting yard waste and some food scraps (not meat or cheese), reusing jars and other containers etc. The list is endless.

2) RECYCLE cans at Boys & Girls Club Recycle Center when it opens

·        StCroixRecycles.org has been working with the Boys & Girls Club for over two years to renovate the site, purchase new equipment and hire a new operator.  Boys & Girls Club has selected an operator and is working out the final details. Please be patient. We will plan and announce a grand opening celebration as soon as possible.

3) GET INVOLVED

  • Attend our monthly meetings from 6:00-7pm on the second Tuesday of every month at the AARP office in the Sunny Isle Annex.
  • Volunteer at one of our many events.
  • Join Freecycle to find free items you need and to post free items you want to give away. To find the St. Croix chapter, go to www.freecycle.org and type in Christiansted as your city. It is easy!
  • Contact your senators and let them know you want recycling in the Virgin Islands. They are considering legislation now so please let them know that you support their efforts.
